Edward Wilson, the only witness to his father's suicide and member of the Skull and Bones Society while a student at Yale, is a morally upright young man who values honor and discretion, qualities that help him to be recruited for a career in the newly founded OSS. His dedication to his work does not come without a price though, leading him to sacrifice his ideals and eventually his family.

The Good Shepherd is a 2006 American spy film produced and directed by Robert De Niro, and starring Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, and De Niro, with an extensive supporting cast. It is a work of fiction, whose narrative is based on events in the life of James Jesus Angleton. Its advertising suggests it as capturing the tone of the birth of modern American counterintelligence, and of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
