Un fils de pharaon momifié est transporté depuis l'Egypte vers un musée archéologique néerlandais pour y être exposé. Mais lors d'une forte tempête, le véhicule qui l'amène finit sa route contre un arbre. Alors que la momie est frappée par la foudre, elle est soudainement ramenée à la vie et poursuit son chemin jusqu'à la ferme de Goos Guts, un garçon ordinaire de onze ans qui vit seul avec son père et s'ennuie dans ce lieu isolé. Après l'avoir découverte dans sa chambre, le jeune garçon se lie d'amitié avec la mystérieuse créature qu'il nomme Dummie. Il l'introduit à l'école comme étant un parent égyptien recouvert de bandage en raison de graves brûlures...
