Nobumasa Tsuboi (Yo Oizumi) dirige une petite usine dans une petite ville. Il a une fille, Yoshimi (Riko Fukumoto), qui souffre d'une maladie cardiaque congénitale. Un médecin annonce à Nobumasa que sa fille ne vivra plus qu'une dizaine d'années. Il est dévasté à l'idée que sa fille ne vivra pas plus de 20 ans. Nobumasa et sa femme Yoko (Miho Kanno) ne peuvent accepter ce diagnostic. Bien qu'il n'ait aucune connaissance ou expérience médicale, Nobumasa commence à étudier les cœurs artificiels.
