George est un vendeur de meubles enthousiaste, un bon père de famille, un gentil mari, un ami fidèle, un bon bricoleur. Mais ce soir-là, George fait une bêtise, il craque sur l'autoroute et tue un homme dans un accès de rage. Effrayé par sa propre violence, il se retrouve avec, sur les bras, la compagne de l'homme qu'il a tué, incapable d'en finir avec elle et dans l'impossibilité de la relâcher. C'est alors qu'il entre dans une nouvelle logique, changeant lentement son quotidien pour cacher la jeune femme. Pourtant, c'est toujours en bon père de famille, en gentil mari, en ami fidèle et surtout en bon bricoleur que George tente de se sortir de cette situation et de la monstrueuse cascade de problèmes qui en découle.
