En el año 2000, Sami trabaja como traductor del equipo olímpico de Siria durante los juegos de Sydney. Un lapsus cometido durante una traducción le obliga a permanecer en Australia, donde obtiene asilo político. En el 2011, estalla la revolución siria y el hermano de Sami es arrestado durante una manifestación pacífica. A pesar del peligro, Sami decide volver a Siria para ayudar a su hermano.
